About
Mary Williams is a sculptor. Her first love is stone carving; however, she also creates pieces in clay and bronze. When asked why she sculpts, Mary’s response is that she has a need to create and sculpting is her way to do so. She takes great satisfaction from working with nature's materials to form shapes and images pleasing to the senses. Through simplicity of design and flowing lines she entices the viewer to handle the finished piece. The core of her work is abstract and figurative; her favorite subject being the female body.

Mary received her formal training from the Art Institute of Chicago. She has participated in many exhibitions and master classes and received numerous awards. Among them were a McKnight Foundation Individual Artist Grant and Fellowship. In 2002 she was commissioned to sculpt a life-sized Ojibwa Indian woman, in limestone, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Otter Tail County, MN Historical Society.
Mary gladly shares her love of art with others. She has taught classes in figurative clay sculpting nearly every year since 1997, most on behalf of the Battle Lake, MN Art of the Lakes organization and more recently the Henning, MN Landmark Center.
